Oil paints are Penny's happiest medium, as it allows her freedom, flexibility and fluidity while painting. Make a mistake, and you have ample time to correct it or change the movement. Traditional landscapes are Penny's forte. Be it the Australian outback, English cottages or Greek Island scenes, these certainly have been her popular subjects. Penny was inspired to paint from a very young age. As a young girl in Greece, Penny watched her father, an artist himself, paint away at his easel in his study. Penny fondly remembers his expression as he gazed upon the canvas, a brush in one hand, and tongue between lips as one does when focusing. Penny immigrated to Australia with her family in 1954 from Athens, Greece, at the age of 9, and with the frustrations brought on by being in a new country with English as her second language, Penny was motivated to express herself more than ever in her art. |
